What good breeding software should do
Whatever program you choose, a few things make the difference in daily use.
The bird is at the centre. Every bird needs one record with its ring number, sex, date of birth, species, colour and mutation, and its parents. Pairs, clutches, health and sales should hang off that record instead of living in separate lists.
Parents entered once should give you the pedigree for free. A family tree you have to type by hand is out of date by next season.
The season should be traceable: which pair laid which clutch, which egg was fertile, which chick hatched on which day and which ring it got.
And your data must stay yours. A good program lets you export everything in an open format, whenever you want.
How Newbred handles it
In Newbred you register each bird once. Link the father and mother and the pedigree builds itself, up to ten generations deep on paid plans. When you put two birds together as a pair, you see the inbreeding coefficient of their chicks before a single egg is laid.
During the season you plan breeding rounds, record clutches and follow every egg from laying to hatching. Expected hatch dates and the ringing window follow from the species' incubation time and ringing age. Closed rings are registered per batch, and the next free ring is filled in when you ring a chick.
Health events, medication, weights, reservations and sales are recorded on the same bird, so its whole history stays in one place.

Newbred runs in the browser, so there is nothing to install and your records are the same on the computer in the house and the phone in the bird room. On your phone you can add Newbred to the home screen so it opens like an app. On the Pro Breeder plan up to five people can work in the same account, on Business as many as you need.

You start on the free Starter plan: up to 25 birds, pedigrees three generations deep, breeding management and inbreeding analysis. Paid plans start at €4.90 a month and add ring management, growth tracking, the sales pipeline, deeper pedigrees and room for more birds. You can export all your data on every plan.
Frequently asked questions
Is it only for parakeets and canaries?
No. Newbred works for the bird species you breed, from parakeets and parrots to canaries, finches and pigeons. It comes with a catalogue of common aviary species with their incubation time, clutch size, ring size and ringing age, and you can add species of your own.
Can I bring my existing records?
Yes. Import an Excel sheet (.xlsx) or a CSV file and choose which column fills which field; parents are linked by ring number. Newbred exports and PigeonDB files are recognised automatically.
Does it work without an internet connection?
No, Newbred needs a connection to load and save your records, so they are the same on every device and never stuck on one computer.
